I typically use "usually" in a sentence more often than "typically". (:

But yeah, they both mean pretty much the same thing. "Sometimes", "occasionally", "periodically". All of these words ending in "-ly" are called adverbs, and they enhance verbs. Instead of "I run around the block", you could say "I usually run around the block". "I typically run around the block" makes it sound like you do it a bit more often than "usually". Taking off the "-ly" leaves perfectly good words to use, also. Typical, usual, occasional. "On a typical day, I wake up at 7 AM". You wouldn't say "On a usual day, I wake up at 7 AM". Here, you could say "I usually wake up at 7 AM".
