My favorite season

Though each season has its advantages and disadvantages, I love the winter season. This season is characterized by the cool breeze, snowfall, warm clothes, Christmas, Santa Claus, New Year, gifts, hot beverages, bonfire, and more. At this time, you can experience severe cold in the northern areas of the country. The temperature falls below zero degrees and causes heavy hail storms. At hill stations like Dehradun, Shimla, Nainital etc., you will find a dense layer of snow that covers cars, trees, roads and almost everything.

Another thing that I like about the winter season is that it is the festive period. The season begins with Diwali. My parents give me gifts, and new dresses. I get one week of winter vacation during Christmas. At this time, the city is decorated with colorful streamers, confectionery items, and fairy lights.

We dress up and visit the Church and enjoy the birth of Lord Jesus. Santa Claus distributes our gifts. We visit our neighbors, and near and dear ones to relish these happy times. I love singing Christmas carols in my school and society. We have a tradition of bringing a Christmas tree at home. I and my sibling decorate it with bells, lights, toys, and other decorative items, toffees etc.

This is also the time when the new year begins. Everywhere there is positivity, enthusiasm, liveliness, joy, merriment and a lot of happiness. I also like to wear blazers, long stockings, colorful caps and socks, fancy jackets, stylish cardigans, and lovely sweaters that my grandma knits for me. I have my favorite navy-blue hand gloves that I always wear in the winter season.

The days and nights in the winter season are also enjoyable. Some people switch on heaters, and while others make bonfires at the patio to add the warmth to the place. Some people also organize parties that comprise hot barbecue chicken, hot soups, grilled chicken and other eatables and beverages. This is the time when we get a lot of delicious fruits and green vegetables that I don’t get to enjoy throughout the year. My personal favorites are apple, orange, kiwis, radish, carrots and more.

My mother prepares a tasty pickle of a combination of vegetables such as radish, carrots, ginger, chilies, and onions. This is the season when our metabolism is high so we eat a lot of ghee laden dishes, dry fruits, hot beverages, etc. without worries. This is one of the best ways to relish this season. My mother bakes my favorite and very yummy chocolate cakes for me.

My brother enjoys eating carrot dessert with nicely chopped nuts sprinkled on it.

Some people sit on the roadside early in the morning. They burn light wood to make the place soothing and warm. I like the fog in the air and white fumes that comes from the mouth at the time of speaking. Winters are also the time that I engage in selfless service. My family distributes woolen clothes, and blankets to the poor and needy. To be useful for others in tiniest ways fill me with contentment and happiness.
