The Seven Wonders of the World are a list of remarkable constructions from the ancient world. They were first described by ancient Greek writers, including Herodotus and Antipater of Sidon. They are seven because it was believed that the number seven was magical and held significance in ancient Greek culture.

They are called "Wonders" because of their beauty, enormous size, and the mystery surrounding their construction. To my mind the most fantastic wonder is the Great Pyramid of Giza. It was built in around 2560 BC in Egypt in honor of the Pharaoh Khufu. It has survived to the present day, remaining one of the most iconic and well-preserved ancient structures.

However, one of the Wonders, the Colossus of Rhodes, was destroyed in 226 BC by an earthquake. Its notable characteristics were its immense size and the fact that it was a statue of the sun god Helios.
