Christmas is one of the most important holidays in Ukraine and it is celebrated on the 7th of January. Ukrainian Christmas traditions are rich in rituals and symbolism. People start preparing for Christmas early in December by decorating their homes with special ornaments, such as hand-painted eggs and traditional straw ornaments.

On Christmas Eve, which is called "Sviat Vechir", families gather around the table to share a festive meal called "Holy Supper". This meal consists of 12 meatless dishes, symbolizing the 12 apostles, and includes dishes such as kutia (a sweet dish made from wheat, honey, and poppy seeds), borscht, and varenyky (dumplings filled with mushrooms or cabbage).

After the meal, families attend a midnight mass at the church to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. On Christmas Day, people visit their relatives and exchange gifts. Carolers can often be heard singing traditional Christmas carols in the streets, and children may go door to door dressed in traditional costumes, asking for treats.

Overall, Christmas in Ukraine is a time of joy, celebration, and togetherness, where traditions are passed down from generation to generation.
